            <description><![CDATA[During the first full year of World War II in the Pacific, the Japanese won a series of victories over the Allies, capturing the Singapore and the Philippines. The latter, due to the heavy naval losses inflicted on the Japanese is seen as the turning point of World War II in the Pacific.  As a follow up to these victories, the Allies began the long march to Japan by invading Guadalcanal.]]></description>
