At Whistler Blackcomb - Record Snow For November

That's right, not only are we�counting down days�to the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, on February 12, 2010, but now we can count how much more snow will raise the new November record at Whistler Blackcomb Resort.

Visit Vancouver 2010, the official web site of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, and join in the daily Countdown and Whistler Blackcomb�to check the snowfall - over 490cm, that's over 190 inches, that's almost 16 feet - so far!�

�While we are talking about the snow and�skiing at Whistler Blackcomb and Cypress Mountain let me say right now - don't hesitate to head up there for skiing before, during or after the Winter Games. In fact check out some of the ski and stay deals available right now.

My Olympic Skiing - 2010 Vancouver Olympics section is ever growing in Olympic relevant content and will soon be getting up close and personal, in 2 weeks, �as I head up� to the Olympic skiing venues at Whistler Creekside, Whistler Olympic Park and Cypress Mountain. U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame - Class of 2009

A group of eight athletes and sport builders have been named for induction to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame. This is the largest class of inductees since 1984 for the Hall of Fame, which is located in Ishpeming, Michigan on the Upper Peninsula - the birthplace of organized ski competition in 1905.

The members of the Class of 2009 are Paralympic champions Chris Waddell and Sarah Will, adaptive skiing pioneer Jack Benedick, legendary big mountain skier Doug Coombs, noted industry writer and instructor Stu Campbell, veteran ski jumping champion Ansten Samuelstuen, the father of southern skiing Sepp Kober and longtime U.S. Ski Team press officer and journalist Paul Robbins.

Nominations for Honored Membership in the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame are received throughout the year from across the country. A Selection Committee under the chairmanship of Paul Bousquet of Woodstock, Vermont,� reviews all nominations. Successful nominations are placed on a ballot that in 2009 was voted on by a panel of 100 electors.� This year's class brings the number of Honored Members to 368.

Since 1956, the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame has provided highly respected, national and perpetual recognition of athletes competing in skiing and snowboarding and of the builders of those sports who have made the highest level of national and/or international achievement and contribution to those sports.

The induction ceremony will take place in Colorado on April 9, 2010. �They will also be further honored in September by ceremonies in Ishpeming, the home of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame. Read more about the members of the Class of 2009.

2010 Winter Olympics Events Schedule

2010 Winter Olympics: The XXI Winter Olympics take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in February, 2010. Skiing events include alpine skiing (downhill, slalom, giant slalom, super G, and super combined), freestyle skiing, cross country skiing, and nordic combined, which incorporates ski jumping and cross country skiing.

Here are all the details, including events, venues, schedules, and top US and international competitors:� 2010 Winter Olympics

2010 Winter Olympics Schedule: If you have never enjoyed, or survived, the Olympic experience in person and you are aiming for the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, get your calendar ready to make plans. The International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) have released the official 2010 Daily Competition Schedule giving a day-by-day breakdown of the sporting activities over the 17 days of Olympic competition and the 9 days of Paralympic competition.

Some highlights of the schedule are: the Opening Ceremony will begin at 6:00 pm on February 12, 2010 and the final sport event of the Olympic Winter Games, the men's gold medal hockey game is scheduled for February 28, at 12:15 pm. The first Paralympic event will be the men's and ladies' alpine skiing competitions beginning at 9:30 am on March 13th, with the final Paralympic sport event, the men's and ladies' one-kilometer sprint finals in cross-country skiing, at 12:00 pm on March 21.

2009 Ski and Snowboard Shows

This is a big weekend for ski and snowboard shows and expos around North America.

These shows are in major metropolitan areas and there are some in smaller cities, as well, that I don't have the dates for. So, watch the Sports or Entertainment sections of your local paper for dates and times of local ski shows near you.

Ski Resort Opening Days

Thanks to the weather and the science of making snow, ski resorts on both coasts are open, some earlier than planned.� You can check online for� ski resort opening days, including which ski resorts are open or projected to open, as well as to review snow reports and ski conditions.

Keep in mind that depending on the whims of mother nature, ski resorts could open, then close again, so before you head to the slopes, check directly with the ski resort to confirm that it's open.� Also check the ski reports for updates on skiing conditions, snow making, open trail information, as well as the snow reports for the amount of new and base snow at each ski resort.

Austrian Reinfried Herbst Wins Levi, Finland WC Men's Slalom

Reinfried Herbst, Austrian slalom specialist who finished 5th in the 2009 World Cup event standings, finished .28 seconds ahead of Croatian Ivica Kostelic to win Audi FIS Alpine World Cup Men's Slalom at Levi, Finland.� Reigning World Cup slalom champion, Jean-Baptiste Grange of France rounded out the podium in third place.

Ted Ligety and Jimmy Cochran finished 18th and 19th for the U.S. and Bode Miller, back skiing with the U.S. Ski Team, took a slalom pole slap to the face, blooding his nose and blurring his vision causing him to pull off on his second run.

Not a lot of surprises in the top ten except for maybe 6th place Lars Elton Myhre of Norway with a personal best WC slalom finish. Complete results of the Audi Alpine FIS Ski World Cup Men's Slalom at Levi, Finland.

Riesch Edges Vonn in Levi, Finland Slalom

Maria Riesch of Germany, the reigning World Cup slalom champion,�beat her friend�Lindsey Vonn of the U.S. by .08 seconds in the Levi, Finland Audi FIS Alpine World Cup Women's Slalom.� Riesch led after the first run by .22 and although Vonn charged back with the fastest�second run�it wasn't enough to�pass Riesch in total time.

Hometown Finnish favorite Tanja Poutiainen was third to round out the podium of veterans -�Riesch, Vonn and Poutiainen have combined for a total of 114 podium appearances.

Note that beside being edged out by one�Riesch lady, Lindsey Vonn had another nipping at her ski tails - Maria's sister, Susanne Riesch, finished 4th!

World Cup Alpine Ski Racing - Levi, Finland

Hans Pieren, the Race Director of International Ski Federation (FIS) has certified that snow conditions at Levi, Finland are excellent for racing and everything is a go for the Audi 2010 FIS World Cup��Ladies Slalom on this Saturday and�the Men's Slalom on Sunday.

Last year at Levi, Lindsey Vonn won with two great runs and Bode Miller was second to the French slalom specialist and 2009 World Cup Slalom Champion, Jean-Baptiste Grange. According to Bode's Blog he feels he will be ready for the technical Levi Black course.

UniversalSports.com will bring us all the action at this second stop on the Road 2010 Vancouver Olympics, covering both Runs 1 and 2 for�the Ladies and Men.

The Ski Channel Partners with DISH Network�

The approximately 13.610 million satellite TV customers of DISH Network� are all getting an early Christmas present as The Ski Channel Video On Demand (VOD) will be joining the DISH Network� lineup of extensive VOD service. In making the announcement of the long-term VOD distribution agreement with DISH Network�, Steve Bellamy, Chairman and CEO of The Ski Channel said, "We have only been on air for nine months and have already crossed the 21 million subscriber mark."�

The addition of DISH Network means that nearly every consumer in America now has at least two available television platforms to receive The Ski Channel, a �free, ad supported network delivered on cable, satellite, IPTV, web and wireless. It is the only television network devoted solely to year-round mountain activities such as skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, backpacking, climbing and off-slope activities.

The Ski Channel's content currently includes series, movies, events, news, weather, destination travel, equipment, instruction and real estate. The 2009 fall programming lineup will bring new shows and films including the works of legendary ski filmmaker Greg Stump, and a wide variety of Colorado's best filmmakers including Sweetgrass Productions, Denver's Futuristic Films and Crested Butte's Two Plank Productions. Also to debut will be talk shows starring Bode Miller, Lindsey Vonn, Tanner Hall, Glen Plake and Simon Dumont, as well as feature partnership programming with the X-Dance Film Festival.
