�It's that time of year again! Holiday parties abound at many restaurants. If you hold a liquor license, then you should familiarize yourself and your restaurant staff with your state liquor laws and responsibilities. While liquor laws vary from state to state, in most cases if a person is involved in an accident while drunk you, as the owner of the establishment that served them, may be held liable as well. Try Out for a New Restaurant Reality Show on NBC

A new restaurant show, United Plates of America (really, is that best name they could come up with?) is in the works. Unlike previous restaurant shows, like Hell's Kitchen or Top Chef, the focus isn't just on cooking anymore. The winning contestant of United Plates of America will win a chain of four restaurants.

The judging panel, made up of investors for the chain, will focus on various parts of owning a restaurant, such as creating an innovative menu, managing restaurant staff, and restaurant marketing. �According to NBC.com, the show " ...will offer a lucky American who has a great idea the chance to be a vital part of [the restaurant]...industry."

National Restaurant Association Opposes the Affordable Health Care for America Act

The National Restaurant Association (NRA) has cited several concerns with the Affordable Health Care for America Act, which was passed by the House on Saturday. In an article on Nation's Restaurant News, the NRA is said to "...supports the broad objects [of the measure] to lower costs and increase health coverage access." However given the fact that the restaurant industry is among the hardest hit during the recession, the health care act is seen as more of a burden than a blessing.

The Affordable Health Care for America Act requires employers to either provide a qualified benefits plan for employees and their dependents or pay a percentage of their payroll into a Health Insurance Exchange. Small businesses (not just restaurants) whose payroll does not exceed $500,000 would be exepmpt from the penalty, which ranges from 2 percent up to 8 percent of their payroll. The House bill also includes provisions for menu labeling for restaurant chains with 20 or more outlets.
