Singer Rob Murat Pays Tribute to the "Souls" of the Haitian People

There's been quite a few songs over the past few weeks paying tribute to the people who've been affected by the recent earthquakes in Haiti, but this one by singer, songwriter and producer Rob Murat just might be the best. Murat,�who was born in New York and is the son of Haitian immigrants,�has dedicated his song "Souls," to awareness building efforts in Haiti. "Souls" is a powerful piece that evokes perseverance in the face of poverty and catastrophe and serves as an emotional tribute to the many families -including his - affected by the tragedy. "We must ensure that attention does not fade as the need for assistance persists," Murat said. "It is imperative that we remain engaged." Album Review: Sade - Soldier of Love

If the biggest R&B comeback of 2009 was the return of Maxwell, then 2010's big story is undoubtedly the return of vocalist Sade Adu and her bandmates, guitarist-saxophonist Stuart Matthewman, bassist Paul Denman and keyboardist Andrew Hale. Soldier of Love, released in the U.S. on Feb. 9, 2010, is the group's first studio album in 10 years, and definitely the group's best effort in almost two decades. Despite the lengthy hiatus, Sade's voice sounds as delicately strong as ever and the musicianship is equally delicate, and has the same kind of mature, peaceful dignity that's always been their trademark. "Help for Haiti" Benefit Telethon Airs Live Tonight

This is just a reminder that the BET Networks-sponsored telethon,�"SOS Saving OurSelves - Help for Haiti," which raises money to help victims of last month's Haitian earthquake, airs tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Among the artists scheduled to perform are Ne-Yo,�Mary J. Blige, Robin Thicke, Monica, Chris Brown, Jazmine Sullivan, India.Arie and several others. The two-hour telethon, which will be hosted Sean "Diddy" Combs, Queen Latifah and Pharrell, airs live on BET, MTV, VH1 and Centric (the channel formerly known as BET Jazz).�It'll also be streamed live on bet.com.�Proceeds go to various organizations including Yele Haiti, CARE, Project Medishare and Children's Safe Drinking Water.

Leela James Says "Tell Me You Love Me"

Someone asked me earlier today when LA-based Soul singer Leela James was coming out with a new album, and that gives me an excuse to post a stream of her latest single, "Tell Me You Love Me." The song's off Leela's upcoming third album, My Soul, which is due to drop May 4, 2010 via her new home label, the legendary Stax Records. "Tell Me You Love Me" is a beautiful hybrid of classic and new-school Soul and is the kind of record that very few vocalists could pull off. It won't be officially released to online stores until next Tuesday (Feb. 9), but for now you can stream it by clicking the link below.

Free Music: Silhouette Brown - "Constant Questions"

Free Music: Joyo Velarde - "Certain Special Way"

If you've already seen the about.com list of February 2010 R&B/Soul albums, then you know that a singer from the San Francisco Bay Area named Joyo Velarde is dropping her debut album, Love and Understanding,�soon. Since she's not nationally known (yet), here's a little bit more about her: Joyo, who was born in the Philippines, is the wife of the rapper Lyrics Born. Her musical style is a mixture of alternative hip-hop and classic Soul. And for a limited time, the Quannum Projects record label (which she co-founded with her husband) is offering a free download of "Certain Special Way," from her new album, which drops Feb. 16.
