Spotlight on: Darvin Moon

Tonight is the final night of pre-taped coverage of the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event before next week, when the final table of the November Nine will re-meet to play down for the championship. One way to broaden your poker knowledge and fun is to try a new poker game. I often recommend a new game to people who ask based on what their current favorite game is. In my home game, it was easy to introduce Omaha to the gang, since it's a lot like Texas Hold'em... only you get four hole cards instead of two. And you have to use two to make your hand. Since it tends to be an "action" game, the boys at the home game took to it immediately. If you're looking to add a game, here's a list of new poker games to add to your home game based on what you already like to play!

'South Park' does 'Poker Face'

Wednesday night's South Park featured Cartman doing his rendition of one of our favorite poker songs, Lady Gaga's Poker Face. Watch his version here. I can't remember any other cartoon character singing a poker song, though I certainly can picture Homer Simpson singing "The Gambler." Poker Position 101

While watching any of the poker TV shows, you might hear a commentator say someone is "making a move in late position" or someone is making a strong play "under the gun." Since players at a poker table rarely even leave their seat, you might not understand at first what position means or how it moves around in poker. Phil Ivey on Cover of ESPN mag

Phil Ivey, often called the best poker player in the world is called that once again by ESPN in their November cover story on the poker pro who may be the next World Series of Poker champion. One of the best quotes in the interview, via Wicked Chops poker:

He's an A-list celeb among A-list celebs, texting with Michael Phelps about attending DC charity events, going backstage with Jay-Z, golfing with Michael Jordan. He's finding that it's not easy to be a private man anymore. "I don't know if you can be a celebrity and the world's best player," says Ivey's pal, poker vet Howard Lederer.

Deuce-to-seven triple draw poker

Deuce-to-seven triple draw is a high-action variation of five-card draw that maddens many, but I love. I love low and hi/lo poker games, because, well, simply put, I'm better at them than 90% of the people I play with. But also because they tend to get a lot of people in the hand and build huge pots. So if you can learn the game and get people to play with you, you too can rake in those monster pots. Here's the rules for deuce-to-seven triple draw.

Mike Sexton inducted into Poker Hall of Fame
