What Are You Getting Yourself for the Hols?

I'm all about holiday shopping. I get stuff for my nieces and nephews, my gorgeous plus-size mom, and just about every neighbor, co-worker, and cousin-in-law I can think of. Another person on my list I make sure to shop for is myself: when you always put yourself last, the holidays are a perfect time to make things right.

I always indulge in a little bit of list-making and planning around this time to make sure I get a few things I need. I'd love to kick things off with eShakti, and then move on to some Victoria's Secret body-lotion goodies!

Avoiding Wardrobe Disasters

I recently had a horrible fashion oopsie moment that would shock any girl. I was at a special event, where I was called up to the front of the party after winning a raffle drawing. I was thrilled (I never win anything!), but then when I went up to smile for the cameras, I froze: I was wearing a silky, lightweight top that would be rendered entirely see-through in the pro flashbulbs. Oh, the agony! The photogs are going to have fun editing that photoshoot, but at least I was wearing a really good bra.

I was inspired to write this list of possible wardrobe disasters after that experience last week. Check it out!

Finding Bras That Aren't Ugly, Fugly, or Awkward

Some bras should never be made, designed, or approved, and I feel like I've run into a lot lately. While it's tough to bridge the gap between mid-size bands and the extended ones, the Elomi Jasmine Underwire kicks off at DD and goes to GG (UK), which is a J here in the States. (I think that pretty much covers us, then!) It reminds me of some bras I've picked up in fancy French lace, and the coral one is marked down to $36.99 on clearance. It doesn't look like armor, it has a great underwire system, and the cups are full-coverage, even. That's a win-win-win in my book.

I'm going to be gifting myself for the holidays as well, via my very specific list given to the hubs. Lingerie will most certainly be on there!

I love checking out "What I Wore" blogs-- even more than I like street style stuff! One of the blogs I am loving right now is Gilding the Frilly, which is a fun blog that follows one twenty-something gal's different outfits for the NYC working world and the weekend. She recently did a great look with a little Glee and Mad Men inspiration, and she also rocked a cute traveling ensemble as well. What's your fave wardrobe-y blog of the moment?

New Outerwear Obsession: Cape at La Dan's Closet

I first ran into La Dan's Closet earlier this season when I saw that they had collaborated with the certainly inimitable Monif C., in a fashion show event/extravaganza. These are seriously hot capes, cloaks, and jackets, available to size 3X, and in options besides neutrals, too! This vibrant yellow is too cool, but they also have purple and blue, as well as the classic black.

I was intrigued enough to click over to the two reviews to see what others have to say. One reviewer commented that the cape was "soooo fab!!!!" and that "At least three women at work asked about the cape. The quality is awesome!" Tempting, right?

For outerwear, the price is quite nice at just over $200. Oh gee... and they are having a sale right now.

Since When Is This Okay?

I ran into something this week that really made my blood boil: a feature from Celebuzz called "Celebs: What If They Were Fat?" Basically, celebrities were Photoshopped with extra poundage, and people were invited to comment on the faux plus-size gallery of A-listers. Naturally, 90% of the commentary was absolutely horrible, from "ew" to incredibly disturbing remarks.

Even as we finish up 2009, there are still some people who think that making fun of someone with extra weight is acceptable. Celeb gossip isn't usually PC, but there are certain lines you simply don't cross.

This is the piece--disgusting. Let me know what you think about it (and the comments) after you take a look at the offending item.

Sports Bra Recommendation

It may not be the prettiest sports bra I've seen, but it's by far the best! I recently took the Enell Sport out for a rather vigorous workout, and I have to admit it's the first time I could wear one sports bra instead of two. (I usually wear two layered over each other, plus a sports tank with a shelf bra.)

There was some bounce when I was actually jump roping, but it wasn't that painful kind of bounce that makes you stop what you are doing--it was kind of a "natural" bounce that didn't impede movement. Since I think the one I had on was actually geared toward the lower-impact spectrum, that's really impressive--it doesn't get more high-impact than jumping up and down as high as you can go, and in one place!

If you have trouble choosing a sports bra (perhaps because you've given up on finding a good one?), this could be a smart one to test out. Let's just say... it was on Oprah.

Do You Do Treggings?

Are you a fan of treggings? While I don't wear this look with heels, I'm pushing all my plus friends to buy a pair for the season just for wearing boots. There is really nothing worse than trying to slide a pair of "plus-size boots," which barely fit over tights, over jeans instead. My bulky jeans never work well with any of my boots, and it makes me insane! What about you? Do you run into the same problem with jeans and sleek knee-high boots?

Treggings can be scary, but they sure are useful for those of us with knee-high boots that aren't so roomy. These particular treggings are available at UK shop New Look, which is currently carrying sizes 18 and 22 for around 23 dollars. They do ship to the States and Canada.

Tell me, would you dare to rock treggings?
