Spb Time Updated to v3.2

Spb Software released the latest version of Spb Time-- version 3.2. With this latest version, you'll get a digital clock widget for Spb Mobile Shell along with an updated database, widespread enhancements, and bug fixes. For registered users of Spb Time 3.x, this is a free update.

If you're unfamiliar with SPB Time, it's a skinnable time toolbox for your Windows Mobile device that provides analog and digital clock modes, a world clock, timers and stopwatches, and advanced alarms.

A Look at Windows Mobile 6.5.3

Although some would argue it's too late in coming, Windows Mobile 6.5.3 is finally out. Since this is a dotdot release, Microsoft won't make any big announcement about it, but we can get a closer look at what the latest version of this mobile OS brings by looking at the first device that runs on the new OS, the Sony Ericsson Aspen.

As you can see from the screenshots available at Windows Phone Thoughts, the latest version of this OS is better positioned to handle touch controls. In addition, there's code that enables multi-touch capabilities. There's also support for capacitive touchscreens. Finally, those of you who do a lot of browsing from your handheld will appreciate that Internet Explorer Mobile 6 has decreased page load times.

Toshiba Shows Off 64GB SDXC Cards

Toshiba took advantage of CES earlier this month to let us know that the company has started shipping samples of its new 64GB SDXC cards. AirStash Offers Wireless Storage for Your Pocket

Here's an interesting way to expand the storage on your PDA as well as other small electronic devices: AirStash is a new wireless flash drive with a built-in media server that lets you store files on an SD card and share them with your PDA, phone, media player, notebook, and other devices wirelessly. New Screen Protector from Targus Is Fingerprint-Resistant

Targus is now offering a line of fingerprint-resistant screen protectors called the Targus Screen Protector with Clear View technology. According to Targus, Clear View will protect touch screen devices from fingerprints, scratches, and smudges. The protectors also help to prevent glare and use a special adhesive that prevents bubbles and peeling.

The new Targus Screen Protector with Clear View will cost $9.99 and is currently available for a number of smartphones as well as in a more universal, 4.3-inch size.

Wireless Charging Devices Emerge

Not long ago, RCA showed off a prototype of a Wi-Fi Hotspot Power Harvester called Airnergy. This device is designed to convert Wi-Fi radio signals into DC power that you can use to charge small wireless devices such as cell phones, PDAs, and smartphones. The Airnergy itself measures about 2 inches by 3 inches and is expected to sell for between $39 and $49. Reportedly, RCA is also working on a smaller version of the device that would take the place of the battery inside of a handheld device.

We've seen various wireless chargers demoed at CES in the past though none have become mainstream just yet. The idea of being able to charge a device wirelessly is certainly intriguing, and it's one that I hope will become a reality soon. Given the increased availability of Wi-Fi, RCA's Airnergy could certainly be convenient for many users.

McDonald's Begins Serving Free Wi-Fi

Remember back in December when I told you that McDonald's was planning to offer free Wi-Fi to all of its customers? Well, the fast food restaurant has finally made good on those plans. All together, Wi-Fi has been added to approximately 11,500 of the company's 14,000 locations. Best of all, Wi-Fi access is free.

It will be interesting to see if other fast food chains follow suit and begin similar offerings. I certainly hope they do.
