ROUSH Mustang to Star in The Wannabes Television Series

Looks like ROUSH Performance has gone Hollywood. Yesterday S3 Entertainment Group (S3), Michigan's largest feature film and episodic television production company, announced that the 2010 ROUSH 427R Mustang will appear in the group's new television series, The Wannabes. Filmed entirely in Michigan, the series features Savvy, a teen-pop group that has toured extensively with Radio Disney.

Jeffrey Spilman, managing partner of S3 said, "S3 is thrilled to work together with ROUSH to showcase the best in Michigan made vehicles, products and services in films. The growing Michigan film industry offers the perfect platform for ROUSH to present its custom vehicles to a larger audience." Meanwhile Joe Thompson, vice-president and general manager of ROUSH Performance, said, "The ROUSH Mustangs play a recurring role and we are excited to be working with S3 Entertainment Group on this project, and hopefully others in the future."

This, of course, is not the first time ROUSH has appeared on television. The company took part in the SPEED Channel's 2010 ROUSH Mustang: The Art of Performance Engineering earlier this year. For the cost of shipping, you can get a copy of the program. Sounds like a good stocking stuffer item this Holiday season.

Mustang Leads 2009 East African Safari Classic

Driver Ian Duncan, along with co-driver Amaar Slatch, were top dogs on the first day of the 2009 East African Safari Classic. They remained at that spot all throughout day two.� The pair are driving a Good Year-sponsored 1967 Ford Mustang in an off-road rally that pits them against the likes of� Porsche 911s,� Datsun's,� Mercedes-Benz, and other classic cars built before 1974. The route takes them 2,500 miles through both Kenya and Tanzania.

According to reports, Duncan's Mustang can put out up to 400 hp. The first event was planned and run in December of 2003. The Rally will continue through December 1st, 2009.

Testing out Ford's New Drop Top in Kauai

This week I've been driving a 2010 Convertible Mustang here on the beautiful Hawaiian island of Kauai. Talk about a blast. Rain or sunshine, this pony has kept me moving along. Top down, the new 4.0L Convertible Mustang fairs better than many drop tops in regard to road noise. I was able to listen to all my favorite tunes without having to blast the sound levels. In all, I'm extremely impressed with this ride.

Stay tuned for my full review when I return to the mainland next week. In the meantime, you can check out my review of the 2008 4.0L Mustang Convertible. Alright, time for some early morning wave watching at Poipu Beach.

Steve Saleen Launches SMS Superparts

Steve Saleen and his company, SMS Supercars, recently launched a new product line at the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Named SMS Superparts, this line consists of high-performance suspension and brake systems, aerodynamically efficient body parts, as well as smaller components. The highlight is a new SMS 296 Supercharger System. Saleen claims the system can� boost horsepower by up to 45 percent in a variety of engine configurations.

Speaking at the SEMA Show, Saleen said,� "I see people fitting our SMS 296 Supercharger System to an existing Mustang or Challenger and coming to us for more. And for those of you whose partner has one of those cars - Christmas is just around the corner, and you can find everything on our website www.smssupercars.com/superparts.html. Christmas is in 51 days!"

Nice plug Steve! And now that I think of it, the holidays are just around the corner. I know what I'm adding to my holiday wish list.

Mustang Dream Giveway

I came across two amazing Shelby Mustangs while at the SEMA Show last week. One was a 1967 Shelby GT500 with a 428 cubic-inch engine. The other was a 2010 Shelby GT500 "Patriot Edition" Mustang. Both featured Wimbledon white exteriors with classic guardsman blue stripes.

Turns out the cars are being given away as part of a Mustang Dream Giveaway Sweepstakes. Proceeds from the sweeps will go to help the Healing Heroes Network which helps provide treatment to injured veterans not covered by military insurance.

Gamers Take Mustang for Virtual Joy Ride

Ford's Mustang '10 Unleashed campaign got a bit more interesting this week. If you recall, this Ford contest gives folks the opportunity to live out their Mustang dreams. Well, four video gamers were recently selected to race the new 2010 Mustang in the video game "Need For Speed: Shift". Nothing big you say? Well, after taking the Mustang on a virtual joy ride, they were sent off to the Fast Lane Racing School where they learned how to race real Mustangs.

How'd they do?� Watch the video to see if it helped these guys out. Hey, it worked for Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Champion Andrew Caddell!

Classic Recreations Gets Shelby GT500CR Green Light

Classic Recreations, the company known for it's "new" classic Mustangs, was recently given the green light by Carroll Shelby to build Shelby GT500CR continuation cars. These polished ponies, built at the Classic Recreations facility, will leave the shop with an official Shelby serial number and badges. They will also be included in the official Shelby Worldwide Registry.

"I am humbled and honored by the opportunity to work with a legend like Carroll Shelby," said Classic Recreations owner Jason Engel. "We pride ourselves on building the finest coachbuilt muscle cars in the world, and I'm thrilled that this new opportunity will allow us to build some of the fastest and coolest supercars on the road today. Other shops build cars. We sit down with a client, listen to their fantasies, and then turn those into reality."

I sat down with Engel at last year's SEMA Show and can say he's the real deal. If I had the money, I'd invest in one of his Mustangs. In all, each car is built to order, taking up to four months from order to completion. The GT500CR will set you back between $119,000- $199,000. For that you can expect between 545 and 780 hp. Bragging rights included.

New Photos: Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Mustang

I'm happy to report it was another action-packed SEMA Show in Las Vegas.� This year's show was loaded with Ford Mustangs and related eye candy. In fact, I spent a large portion of my weekend organizing show photos and running through my notes.

Speaking of photos, on Wednesday morning I came across the number 41 Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Mustang. Only 45 of these sharp looking Mustangs will be made. Later in the day I caught up with Beau Boeckmann of Galpin Auto Sports. Boeckmann had quite a few Mustangs at this year's show. The Iacocca is sold exclusively through his family's dealership.

Check out these new photos I took of the ride. Believe me when I say the car is as impressive in person as it is on film.

Shelby Will Once Again Sponsor NASCAR Sprint Cup Race

On Friday Shelby Automobiles announced they will once again sponsor a NASCAR Sprint Cup event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2010. This year they sponsored the Shelby 427 at the track in March. Next year's event, on February 28, will be called the Shelby American to honor the 45th anniversary of the Shelby GT350 and 427 Cobra introductions in 1965.

Now, before I get ahead of myself, I wonder if another special-edition Mustang is on its way? Last year's NASCAR announcement resulted in the offering of a special 2009 Shelby GT500 SuperSnake 427 Edition Mustang. No word yet regarding a vehicle release, but I have a feeling something might be in the works. A special-edition GT350 package maybe? The GT350 is a favorite around here. Nothing wrong with dreaming, right?

"We are ecstatic to have the legendary Shelby name on our NASCAR Sprint Cup race for a second consecutive year," said LVMS President Chris Powell said. "This year's event was a tremendous success, and we're looking forward to giving more exposure to the Shelby brand that has, over the years, become synonymous with the best in high-performance cars."
