Free Milwaukee Admirals Tix for Veterans - Friday, November 6

The Milwaukee Admirals will offer all veterans and active military personnel a free Stern & Bow Ticket for their 7 p.m. game against the Peoria Rivermen on Friday, November 6. In order to receive their ticket veterans should bring their military ID, American Legion or VFW Card, or a copy of the DD214 form to the Admirals office during regular business hours or to the Bradley Center Box office prior to the game. Saturday

Stop in at the Milwaukee Public Museum to help hold a 15-foot python during Snake Day, then trek over to the Milwaukee County Zoo for Family Free Day.

Sunday

Take the bike on a last pre-winter ride to the Harley Museum to check out their temporary exhibit The Helmet Project. This collaboration with MIAD will be ending Sunday, November 8.

Halloween is so two days ago. It's "the holidays" now, people! According to an article in the Journal Sentinel, Santa will even be making his first appearances of the season at both Brookfield Square and Southridge this weekend. Is he early this year?

Badger Wins Wisconsin License Plate Design Poll

The Department of Natural Resources announced the results of an online survey to help gauge the popularity of four potential designs for a new Wisconsin Endangered Resources license plate today. More than 23,000 votes were cast for the potential plates, and the badger design won by a landslide.

Poll results:

Badger: 6,167 votes for 68%
Great blue heron: 2,890 votes for 12%
Eastern bluebird: 2,846 votes for 12%
Red-headed woodpecker: 1,905 votes for 8%

Governor Doyle Signs Electronic Waste Recycling Bill

Governor Jim Doyle signed Senate Bill 107 last Friday, a law that will help provide consumers with access to sites to properly recycle and dispose of electronic waste like old computers, printers, televisions and VCRs. Bill 107 bans certain electronics from landfills and requires that manufacturers of such electronics sold in Wisconsin must provide residents with a means of properly disposing of electronic waste.

What this Means for Consumers:

Increased access to responsible electronics recycling. It is expected there will be at least one collection site per county, including more sites in densely populated areas.
Consumers will not be able to dispose of many household electronic devices in landfills or incinerators in Wisconsin after Sept. 1, 2010. It is also illegal to dump, burn or bury these devices, so households will need to recycle them.
There will be no changes in the types of devices consumers can buy, and no up‐front recycling fee added to the price of a new TV or other covered device.

Rummage-A-Rama - October 24 & 25

Get your ready to rummage this weekend, Milwaukee, because Rummage-A-Rama is back at State Fair Park with more than 100 vendors selling new and used household items, sporting goods, antiques, collectibles, craft items, jewelry and more.

Where: Wisconsin Products Pavilion at State Fair Park.
When: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, October 24 and 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday, October 25
Cost: $2 with a donation of two non-perishable food items for Hunger Task Force. $4 without donation. Kids 12 and under are free.
Parking: Free parking is available in the North Lot by entering Gate 6 off 84th Street at The Pettit National Ice Center. Preferred parking is available next to the Wisconsin Products Pavilion for a $5.

Name the Zoo's New Tiger Cubs!

The Milwaukee County Zoo recently debuted two new furry friends to the public: female Siberian Tiger cubs. Born on July 8, the little cubs weigh in at about 20 pounds each, and are cute and healthy. But there is one problem -- these little tigers don't have names yet! That's where you come in! You have until October 23 to submit tiger cub name suggestions to the Zoo. At the end of the official contest period, a committee will pick the entry with the two names they feel best suit the animals.

Southwest Begins Service from Milwaukee November 1

Planning to escape from Milwaukee for a winter getaway? Don't forget to shop Southwest Airlines: The company will begin service from General Mitchell International Airport on November 1 with a dozen daily nonstop flights to six destinations: Baltimore/Washington, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix and Tampa Bay, and connecting service to 49 other destinations throughout the Southwest Network. Southwest Airlines will operate from two gates in Terminal D at Mitchell, and will have about 40 fulltime Employees.
