Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival Juices Up Thursday, November 19

Milwaukee's holiday cheer is about to get juiced up Thursday with the ceremonial tree lighting and switch flipping that starts the Holiday Lights Festival. First, head to Red Arrow Park by 4:30 p.m. to see the giant Christmas tree as it's lit for the first time, then to Pere Marquette Park for a 5:30 p.m. fashion show and a switch-flipping ceremony at 6 p.m. Fireworks, dancing, singing, Santa, cookies, hot cocoa and even free Jingle Bus rides will round out the evening.

Milwaukee Energy Assistance

This year, it may be easier for Milwaukee families to qualify for energy assistance. The Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP) is now working under new income guidelines making it easier to qualify. Families with incomes at or below 60% of the state medium income -- approximately $45,000 for a family of four -- may qualify for energy assistance to help pay their energy bills.

Free Milwaukee Admirals Tix for Veterans - Friday, November 6

The Milwaukee Admirals will offer all veterans and active military personnel a free Stern & Bow Ticket for their 7 p.m. game against the Peoria Rivermen on Friday, November 6. Stop in at the Milwaukee Public Museum to help hold a 15-foot python during Snake Day, then trek over to the Milwaukee County Zoo for Family Free Day.

Sunday

Take the bike on a last pre-winter ride to the Harley Museum to check out their temporary exhibit The Helmet Project. This collaboration with MIAD will be ending Sunday, November 8.

Halloween is so two days ago. It's "the holidays" now, people! According to an article in the Journal Sentinel, Santa will even be making his first appearances of the season at both Brookfield Square and Southridge this weekend. Is he early this year?
