Free Steak Dinner For Vets Nov. 8th

Madison Christian Church has honored the Veterans of Madison County for the last four years with a Free Steak and Potato Dinner. This year from 1800 to 2100 (that is 6 to 9 PM) on Sunday November 8th, 2009 all Veterans and Active Duty personnel are invited to the 5th Annual Veterans Dinner.

All Veterans and Active Duty personnel dinners are Free and will include a � lb New York Strip Steak, Baked Potato, Broccoli or Green Bean Casserole, rolls & butter, and Desert. Madison Christian Church is located at 1400 Hughes Road, Madison AL. If you are a non-veteran and want to attend to show your support for Our Veterans - You are welcome. Donations will be accepted and children under 8 also eat for free. If you have any questions or want more information on this Free Event, please call Jim at 256-509-0508.

To honor those who serve their country, Applebee's is offering veterans and active military to eat free on Wednesday, Nov. 11th, Veterans Day. Simply show proof of service.
Whether you approve of the wars we are in or not, it is our job as Americans to support the troops and in the process we can help to increase their morale by showing we care. Let's face it, your show of appreciation could very well save someone's son or daughter's life. So my question to you is will you do your part and wear RED on Fridays?
Everyone's watching their budget these days. If you want to get a jump on holiday shopping, check out the Black Friday Ad site for information and coupons. Some stores are having pre-Black Friday sales this Saturday, Nov. 7th.

November 6th Concert Benefits Honor Flight

2:10 Ministries, a local ministry group, will host a Christian Gospel Concert benefiting Honor Flight, which takes our World War II Veterans to Washington to visit the WWII Memorial. The concert on Friday, November 6th at Trinity United Methodist Church on Airport Road will feature Christian Gospel Recording Artist Guy Penrod with guests Jeff and Sherri Easter, and Brandon Watkins. Tickets are $35.00 each and are available at the church office. The doors open at 6 p.m., and the concert begins at 7 p.m.

Little Bear & Nefertiti Need Homes

Little Bear is the "Dog of the Week" for Huntsville Animal Services. Little Bear is an 8 year old black Pomeranian. He's a real sweetheart and the folks at Huntsville Animal Services have decided he's the sweetest Pomeranian they've seen in a long time. Little Bear will follow you everywhere and loves to climb into your lap. Won't you stop by the shelter soon to meet this little guy and give him a chance for a forever home?
Nefertiti is the "Cat of the Week" for Madison Animal Rescue Foundation in the city of Madison. Nefertiti is a 5 month old black & white Tuxedo cat. She's loves to cuddle and would like to climb into your lap and go to sleep. She's a feisty girl who doesn't let things bother her. She loves other cats and gets along well with children. Won't you give this sweet little girl a spot in your heart and in your home?

Huntsville Restaurant Scores

In the latest Huntsville/Madison County Health Dept. report, only one of the 47 restaurants inspected failed to make a passing score of 85, and only one had a perfect score of 100. Some of the places visited this past week included Malibu Cantina, El Dorado Mex-Grill, Santa Fe Cattle Company, Shea's Express, Denny's, Blue Plate Cafe, Mullins Drive In, Tortora's, Cajun Grill, Little Paul's Gibson Barbecue, Wild Rose Cafe, PaPou's, Dreamland Bar-B-Que Ribs, plus more. Veterans Day Parade Is Next Wednesday

In Huntsville, Veterans Day is celebrated with a parade in downtown Huntsville. Veterans from all the armed forces and all the different wars are honored. Veterans Day is a federal holiday and a state holiday in all states. Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. Major hostilities of World War I ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice. Here's a look at the 2007 parade. Lunching at Dolce

One of my favorite things to do is to go out for a long leisurely lunch with my girlfriends. I waited a long time for Dolce restaurant in Bridge Street to open for lunch...but they finally have. They are advertising themselves as a "quick" lunch...25 minutes guaranteed or you eat free. But I was interested in savoring the food and enjoying some "girl talk." I was thrilled I don't have a 9 to 5 job that I have to rush back to. They were not upset that we wanted to "linger" and didn't try to rush us out.

Spooky Huntsville Ghost Walk

The Huntsville Ghost Walk tour is a two-hour walk around the historic districts of Huntsville with stops along the way to hear the spooky history of the people who lived (and died) there. I scare easily, but my curiosity got the better of me. I signed myself up for this "Ghost Walk" around historic Huntsville in the Twickenham district. Of course, I chose to join a late afternoon private tour...no way was I going to go looking for ghosts after dark!

Here's some things I learned in Huntsville this week:

I wait for it all year long...Saturday night we're getting that hour back that they stole from us in the spring. Daylight Savings Time concludes November 1, 2009 at 2 am. Yea!
The Brookstone Holiday store is now open near the Bridge across from Connors Steak and Seafood. Brookstone is a nationwide specialty retailer offering an assortment of consumer products that are functional in purpose, distinctive in quality and design and not widely available from other retailers.
The South Huntsville Civic Association (SHCA) was initially formed in response to the recent actions taken by the Huntsville Housing Authority (HHA) in moving HHA residents from downtown to apartments and homes in South Huntsville. Residents are encouraged to attend the HHA Public Hearing on Oct. 29, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. It is your opportunity to provide feedback on HHA's 5-year plan
