Regular Ferry Service Returns to Montserrat

Montserrat still doesn't have any direct flights from the U.S. or even San Juan, but it just got a lot easier to get to the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean from its nearby gateway, Antigua.

Regular ferry service has resumed between Antigua and Monterrat, with the MV Deluxe making the one-hour, 15-minute passage between the two islands twice daily on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. Roundtrip fares are about $115, with special daytripping packages available.

The ferry service starts on Dec. 7.

Also, FlyMontserrat is providing another alternative to Winair's existing service to Montserrat by offering one daily flights between Antigua and Montserrat, starting Dec. 1 with fares starting at $110 roundtrip.

Locair Offers New Air Taxi Service to Out Islands of Bahamas

The air taxi service Locair will begin service between Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Abaco and Long Island in the Bahamas on Nov. 20, and between St. Petersburg/Clearwater and the Abacos on Dec. 18.

The flights -- which include the only scheduled service between Stella Maris, Long Island and the U.S. -- recently received regulatory approval from the Bahamas government. The routes will be served by Fairchild Metro III turboprops. Introductory fares start at $79 one-way for the Abaco flights.

New Flights and Increased Air Service to Jamaica

One thing Jamaica has always had going for it is accessibility, and some new flights are making it even easier to get to the birthplace of reggae and Usain Bolt, island officials say.

JetBlue, AirTran and US Airways are among the airlines offering new service to Jamaica.�Last month, JetBlue began flying from New York to Kingston; the airline also added service to Montego Bay� in May and plans to expand MoBay service to Boston and Orlando, as well.

US Airways will debut nonstop service between Phoenix and Montego Bay in December, and AirTran will start flying to Montego Bay from Atlanta, Baltimore and Orlando in February.
