Song of the Day: Make the Girl Dance - "Kill Me"

The Frenchmen behind "Baby Baby Baby," return with what seems like a response track. This time sung in English, rather than a song about a girl who wants everything, the vocals are about hedonists spoken over a rocking electro beat. Like the previous single, the video seems to be the main focus. The clip answers the question "What would you do if you only had 8 days left to live?" The hedonistic journey takes them to New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas on a drunken, drug fueled binge full of sex, skating and tattoos. Granted it is not a bad way to end your life (or spend $30,000 dollars), I do wonder if dolls qualify for protection from child abuse. This video (and song) is definitely Not Safe For Work.

Song of the Day: Bassmonkeys & Bianca Lindgren - "Get Busy"

As one who has enjoyed the productions of the Bassmonkeys on numerous Fierce Angel compilations, it's awesome to see them break out in such a big way. "Get Busy" just screams hit - for both the cool underground clubs and the commercial world. Perfectly timed for Winter Music Conference, watch for this crowd pumping, bass-driven electro track to rock dance floors around the world. The "Push Me, Stop It" hook will surely stick in your head after the first listen. The video is borderline Not Safe For Work with borderline nude women in a voyeuristic/bondage fantasy (imagine a part two of Rudenko's "Everybody".) The male vocals also sound like they contain an F-bomb, but its muffled so as not to be completely clear. Just as "Call on Me" ended up launching an aerobics work out DVD, I could imagine "Get Busy" inspiring a "Strip For Your Man" instructional video.

Song of the Day: Jes - "Lovesong"

Dance artists do cover songs quite often and normally the results can be chalked up to jazzed up karaoke. This is not the case with Jes, the voice of Motorcycle's "As the Rush Comes" and countless other trance/rock/progressive hybrids. Her breathy yet raspy voice adds a new expressive tone to the Cure classic "Lovesong." There is a sense of urgency so when Jes sings "I Will Always Love You," you know she means it. The punchy dance rock influenced production is perfect for dance radio while the Cosmic Gate will heat up any dancefloor during the cold winter.

Song of the Day: Zoot Woman - "Just A Friend of Mine"

Zoot Woman established themselves early on as an electroclash force to be reckoned with. The band includes Adam and Johnny Blake and Stuart Price, who most may know as the driving force behind Madonna's Confessions on a Dancefloor album. Price and Adam Blake are also known as Paper Faces who scorched with remix of Felix Da Housecat, Scissor Sisters, Armand Van Helden, and Madonna's "Let It Will Be". Zoot Woman's 2009 album, Things Are What They Used To Be, features singles like "We Won't Break" (a rework of their 2007 single) and "Memory". It also included this energetic gem, "Just A Friend Of Mine". Melody runs rampant over the track, earning the genre application of "synthpop". Zoot Woman's male singer and indie swagger will allow this track to appeal to the mainstream naysayers and hipsters alike, while a shockingly loyal yet seductively aggressive remix by Chris Fraser will allow the track some room on your floors.

Song of the Day: Junior Caldera featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor - "Can't Fight This Feeling"

In a fitting sequel to "Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer", Sophie Ellis-Bextor launches back onto the dancefloor for this new collaboration with French DJ/Producer Junior Caldera. "Can't Fight This Feeling" sounds similar to the Freemasons track in concept, although Caldera's track has more of a gritty edge to it. Ellis-Bextor pleads with the object of her affection, overwhelmed with emotion and desperate to be lovers. The track is the latest release off his 2009 album, Debut. It is also rumored to be included on Sophie's 2010 album, Another Love. Currently the accented chanteuse is set to release the lead single "Bittersweet" to leave us drooling and tantalized for a brand new album, but for now we can be extremely pleased with this classy slice of house. Mixes by Mischa Daniels, Avicii, and Soundshakerz flip the track for different floors. Find your favorite and rock it out.

Song of the Day: Above & Beyond - "Buzz"

Above and Beyond, the trio of Jonathan Grant, Tony McGuinness, and Paavo Siljam�ki, consistently produce the highest quality trance music, so it is no surprise that Virgin Galactic chose one of their tracks as the soundtrack for the unveiling of SpaceShipTwo. The pounding trance track features bits of Buzz Aldrin's famous speech when he landed on the moon. With Virgin Galactic set to be the world's first consumer space travel operator, where a flight will cost $200,000, I wonder how much Ultra Music Festival headliners Above & Beyond will charge for an in-flight dj set.

Song of the Day: Kim Sozzi "Secret Love"

I am such a big fan of Kim Sozzi so whenever she releases a new single, it goes directly into my set, because I know its going to be good. Kim is one of the rare American dance artists who is able to continually produce quality dance music. When you look at her current album Just One Day, there are no less than five singles - "Cry Tonight," "Like a Star," "Break Up," "Alone" and the recent smash "Feel Your Love." "Secret Love" is another great pop dance record, it beckons you in with a soft, seductive intro that grows into a hooky groove. Kim sounds amazing, then again - she always does. Listen for this on dance radio, its going to be massive.

Song of the Day: Pilot Priest - "Body Double"

As much as we may enjoy cracking jokes at the expense of Kanye West, he definitely deserves our appreciation for bringing mainstream interest to electronic dance music. If it wasn't for Kanye sampling "Harder Better Faster Stronger" in his hit "Stronger," would Daft Punk have won two Grammys last year? I doubt it. Showing his love for Daft Punk even more, Kanye blogged about Daft Punk's new song "The Crash" and there are rumors that it might be used for the new Tron movie. Time to break out a fresh set of punchlines as the song he linked is actually "Body Double" by Pilot Priest. Yes, "Body Double" does sound like it could be a Daft Punk song for the movie Tron - with its minimalist elements, moody soundtrack feel and middle crescendo to 80s-feeling electronic music. Chalk it up to another in the current line of Canadian electronic musicians pumping out quality tunes - Dragonette, Anjulie, Chromeo, Delerium.
