Dunkin Donuts requires a purchase of a drink to get your free donut. There are lots of locations in the Dallas area.

Free Sonic Root Beer Float

Beastro at the Fort Worth Zoo

This Friday, the Fort Worth Zoo is having their annual tasting event. Guests 21 years and older will enjoy live animals (of course), samples from Fort Worth's best restaurants, open bars, music from Better Than Ezra, more music by Time Machine, and more. The evening is the best time to see some of the animals, since they are more active at dusk and dawn.

Tickets cost $85 ($75 for zoo members) and need to be purchased beforehand. Buy them at the zoo ticket office or online before noon on Friday.

Shepton Freshman Eats Fetal Pig Parts for $50

I'm horrified. A ninth-grader at Shepton High School in Plano ate fetal pig parts on a dare. His friends gave him $50 to eat the testicles. He says he avoided chewing and simply swallowed them like a pill. Surely he remembered the biology teacher's cautions at the beginning of class: don't get the formaldehyde in your eyes; don't get the formaldehyde in an open cut; try to get some fresh air every so often because formaldehyde isn't good for your lungs, either. It's been twenty-five years and I still remember that we were supposed to avoid the formaldehyde as much as possible. Well, his mom took him to the hospital, which cost $100. He owes his mom quite a bit more than he got for a silly stunt.

DART's DFW Conundrum

The Star-Telegram has an interesting article about the rail lines leading out to DFW. Plans have been for DART's Orange Line (still in the planning stages) to have stations at Dallas Love Field and DFW Airport, among other stops. From Fort Worth, The T would develop the old Cotton Belt Railway which would run from southwest Fort Worth to DFW Airport. The two lines are supposed to meet at DFW and people who want to continue to another city can transfer between the lines.

Until recently, the two lines were going to meet at a station built between Terminals A and B at DFW, paid for partly by DFW Airport. But now the DART board is looking at putting the station on undeveloped land farther away from the airport. Read more...

Energy Star Tax-Free Weekend

The state of Texas is having the Energy Star Tax-Free Weekend May 23-25 (Saturday through Monday). It's even a good weekend to stock up on light bulbs, if the light bulbs have the Energy Star designation.

New Rides at Fair Park
