I named this the "holiday sparkle bracelet." The name seemed natural because I crocheted my project sample using metallic embroidery floss in a color called "holiday sparkle."

I do think the bracelet would be lovely for wearing on holidays such as Valentine's Day, although it would be a little silly to limit it to only wearing on holidays. I wear mine whenever I feel like it, holiday or not. Having said that, I do plan to wear mine on Valentine's Day this year.

You're welcome to make a bracelet too, if you like.

Crocheted Heart Applique With Beads

This heart applique is crocheted using beads and wire. This combination makes the heart shape stiff yet flexible; I like it because you don't need to starch it or add glue to it to achieve the stiffness.

There are many different ways you can use this little heart; I used mine to frame a picture of myself and my husband on a scrapbook layout. I'm planning to make a few more of these to use as appliques on various craft projects.

Free Chart -- Alternating Hearts for Making Crocheted Trims and Edgings

This free chart has many potential uses, but I used it for making filet crochet trim.

After working the chart in filet crochet, I had another idea. The filet crochet design is pretty, but it's subtle. What about making another trim where the heart motifs really pop out from the background?

So, I whipped up a new trim pattern, where the hearts are cross-stitched on top of the trim. This gives you the option of easily creating color contrast between the background and heart motifs.

I like both versions, and I hope you'll enjoy crocheting them too. The free crochet patterns for both versions of the design are available on our website.

Our list of free crochet pouch patterns includes several interesting designs, including this pretty heart-shaped pouch. This pouch would be a lovely way to present a small gift -- sweet wrapped candies, perhaps, or maybe jewelry or other goodies.

There are other ways to use this pouch, so if you make one of these, please feel free to get creative in how you use yours. I put my sample pouch to use as a Valentine / love note holder. It's holding an assortment of small cards and love notes that I received on previous Valentine's Days.

Easy Crochet Mesh Scarf Pattern

I have a new favorite scarf-of-the-moment; it's this easy crocheted mesh scarf.

There are many things I appreciate about this scarf. I love its versatility, and its drape; also, it was really quick and easy to crochet.

In California, where I live, this scarf works fine for mid-winter wear; in certain other locales, it may be better suited for wearing during the spring and fall.

It isn't too early to start crocheting a mesh scarf for this coming spring, which will be here before you know it. Amy's Scarf of Many Colors:

I spent countless hours during my childhood daydreaming about what Joseph's coat of many colors might have looked like. In hindsight, I totally missed the point of the story, because the colorful coat was the major takeaway that stuck in my mind.

I'd be thrilled to crochet a coat of many colors someday, but in the meantime I've been dreaming up smaller projects inspired by the "many colors" theme. This crocheted scarf is one example.

I love colorful crochet, but at the same time, too much color can get overwhelming. To compensate, I've combined all the colorful yarns with a beige-y neutral color that balances out the brightness a bit.

In my opinion, this qualifies as an excellent winter scarf, especially if you crochet your scarf using wool yarn, as I did. The fabric is dense and warm. If you really want to bundle up, it's easy to make the scarf longer.

Free Crochet Pattern for Heart Potholders

Here's a quick project that's fun to crochet; it's a potholder with a striped heart design. I love heart motifs and use my heart potholders all year around, but I think the design is especially perfect for use during the month of February.

If you want yours specifically to be Valentine potholders, you could crochet them in red, pink and white -- or perhaps use three different shades of pink. Another option: match them to the colors in your kitchen.
