Dr. Pepper, EA, and "The Sims 3"

The majority of the time when I receive news of EA incorporating a real life star or product into their games, the news doesn't phase me. This time the news is exciting. My favorite soda company and EA is getting together.

The partnership will include new content found on thesims3.com. Plus Dr. Pepper bottles will have codes for downloadable items. Press release gave beach party items or items for the perfect fall tailgating as examples.

I'm a happy gamer. I get my soda and new "Sims 3" objects. Now if the codes were going to be under the covers of Coke, I wouldn't be impressed. I don't see myself buying products I don't normally use or like to get new objects. I do think it's a fun way to get new objects. If I'm already spending the cash, might as well get something fun out of it.

The purchase of "The Sims 3" comes with 1,000 points for "The Sims 3" store. Clothes, hair, and furniture can be bought for a fee. Most clothes items cost 75 points or .75 cents. Complete object sets are over 1,000 points. In real money, that means more than $10.

A few items are free. There's the Prius, Fanta Fridge, and a Lord Sponge lamp. Lord Sponge has a computer and shirts too. The car I like. The rest I'll pass on.

Alice and Kev are sims. They live in an abandon lot. There are no cozy sofas or beds for the father and daughter family. Only way they will survive is by hanging out the neighbors, stealing apples, and getting food at work and school. Robin Burkinshaw, the creator of Alice and Kev, made it more interesting by giving the sims negative personality traits. She tells use about their daily life through a blog dedicated to the pair.

Robin is a fantastic writer. Alice and Kev's story is written with limited embellishment. We see that nice Sims (Alice) tend to get away with a lot more then the miserable ones (Kev).

My next family may be my own version of Alice and Kev. Anyone else going to try a pair of homeless Sims? Or any families not following the tradition route of trying to have the perfect life?

"The Sims 3" Review

I almost couldn't believe my eyes when I had my copy of "The Sims 3" in my hands. Didn't feel real. It was finally here. Years of waiting. Was it worth the anticipation? Yes. Is it perfect? Nope. But it passes the most important test. It's fun. Waiting to get through the Sims sleeping at night, not so much. I'm hoping a patch will fix the speed control issue.

How are you enjoying "The Sims 3?" Things you don't like? Things you love? Stuff that surprised you?

More "Sims 3" Pirated Copies Downloaded Than "Spore"

"The Sims 3" hasn't even been officially released and already more illegal copies have been downloaded than was for "Spore." And EA thought they needed to delay the release to create hype. Based on these numbers, "Sims 3" will be a bigger seller than "Sims 2."

EA tells Afterdawn.com that the copy going around is not the final version and is full of bugs. Besides why have an illegal copy when you could (and should) play a version of "The Sims 3" that has nudity.

"The Sims 3" has not been officially released. We still have 6 days to wait. Thought some gamers have pirated "The Sims 3" and have already been playing for days now. Hopefully the rest of you will buy the full version. Moving on to the reviews... Metacritic has posted two scores from two gaming magazines. Both PC Gamer UK and PC Gamer give "The Sims 3" a score of 92. Looking good for the game already! GameDaily has 90 player reviews (and counting). All have recommended the game.

Like "Fish Tycoon" or "Virtual Villagers," "MondoZoo" runs in real time. You play online against yourself. Managing a zoo is not easy and will take a few restarts to get a good foundation. The nice thing about "MondoZoo" is you can sign in to your account anywhere. So yes, you can sneak a peak into your zoo while at work. We all need to have a break sometime, right?

"Spore" is the latest of Will Wright's big releases. The game is a considered to be an everything simulation. Read my "Spore" review if you've never heard of the game. Now is a good time to get "Spore" if the $50 put you off. Or maybe just skip it altogether. After all, "The Sims 3" is only days away (coming June 2).

"The Sims 3" is complete and is in the printer's hands. Now it's time to start counting down the days, that's if you haven't already. Anything you need to do to prepare for "The Sims 3" arrival? Ask for a couple vacation days? Buy more RAM? I will be buying a new video card, once I figure out which one to buy. I don't have any families planned out. I think I'll just mess around with the start families to get a feel for the new aging.

EA released information about the online features of "The Sims 3." None of them were a surprise to me. There will be a store similar to one they have for "The Sims 2." Buy points and cash those points in for objects. The second feature - an exchange. Here you will see the popular downloads and get the downloads for yourself. TheSims3.com will have a personal homepage and tools to create and share your Sim movies.

Very little to get excited about this time.
